Luca Luciano

Luca Luciano (born 12 August 1975 in Naples, Italy) is a clarinettist, a composer and an educator currently based in London (UK). He has held the position of clarinet professor at the Leeds College of Music in the UK, he is a specialist of both classical and improvised music and his research focuses on extended techniques and new compositions for solo clarinet.
Introduced as ''“the new voice of the clarinet”'' on the front page of De Klarinet magazine,〔De Klarinet, The Netherlands, November December issue 2012〕 a keen promoter of new music, he has been described by "Musician Magazine" as ''“a noted Italian clarinettist and composer who now makes his home in London, having developed an enviable reputation as an instrumental virtuoso around the UK and overseas via recordings and concert hall appearances”''.〔Musician Magazine, UK, June 2008〕 Praised by the International Clarinet Association,〔The Clarinet Journal, official publication of the International Clarinet Association, December 2011〕 Luciano received a master's degree from the Conservatory of Music of Salerno (Italy) in 1999, has been awarded the Fellow status at the Higher Education Academy in the UK in 2010 and is now ''“one of Europe's leading exponents of jazz clarinet”'' according to the BBC Radio.〔Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6, 16 April 2012〕
He began his career at the age of twelve performing at the Sala Curci of Naples and has since ''“established himself as the friendly face of contemporary clarinet”'' according to the Clarinet & Saxophone Magazine.〔Clarinet & Saxophone Magazine, official publication of the Clarinet & Saxophone Society of Great Britain, summer issue 2011〕 He has held several recitals, master-classes, lecture-recitals and workshops in the UK, Europe and South America including the South Bank Centre in London, the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, SESC Instrumental Paulista and Centro Cultural São Paulo (Brazil). In recent years he has been focusing primarily on his own music with ''premieres'' regularly held at St Martin in the Fields〔31 August 2010, 27 September 2011, 25 September 2012, 3 September 2013, 26 August 2014 at (St Martin in the Fields )〕 in London for their "New Music Series" and overseas.〔Brazil 2011, 2012 and 2014〕 His compositions have been cited on books about the clarinet repertoire〔"New Complete Method for Clarinet / Clarinet Repertoire", Edizioni C.D.B 2008, Italia〕 and have also received appreciation within the academic scene of the UK,〔Gonville & Caius College at the University of Cambridge (May 2011 and June 2013); Birmingham University (May 2013), Glasgow University (October 2011), Reading University (October 2008 and November 2010), the King’s Hall at the Newcastle University (November 2007)〕 and Brazil.〔University of Santos (November 2012), Fundacao das Artes in Sao Paulo, University of Sao Paulo (March 2010 and August 2011); Faculdade Santa Marcellina in Sao Paolo (March 2010 and August 2011); Conservatorio Villa Lobos in Sao Paulo (August 2011)〕
